Preparing to stimulate tourism when the COVID-19 pandemic is under control

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued a plan to implement policies to stimulate and restore tourism and travel by the end of 2021, clearly stating the need of ensuring dual goals of COVID-19 prevention and socio-eco development.

In addition to mandatory criteria of personal safety for tourists, tourism products must be in line with the post-COVID-19 trend. Particularly, they are safe tourism products and safe destinations, associated with various types of resort tourism, eco-tourism, agricultural tourism and healthcare tourism. Besides, products of night tourism, cuisine, eco-tourism, golf... are also invested and developed. Enterprises are encouraged to improve the efficiency of linkages and cooperation in building complementary product and service chains; renewing and supplementing added value to destinations, products and services.

Along with that, the tourism sector will deploy stimulus campaigns of "Vietnamese people travel to Vietnam" and "Vietnamese tourism is safe and attractive". The tourism sector will upgrade existing applications, such as safe Vietnam tourism (, medical declaration system and vaccination certification system (www. as well as information systems about tourist resorts... Communicating to introduce, open destinations, safe travel processes, update information on new and preferential travel programs; simultaneously, supporting enterprises to promote and sell demand-stimulating products at preferential prices and quality commitment.

One of the prerequisites for the tourism return is to prioritize the COVID-19 vaccination campaign rapidly and effectively for the inhabitants and workers in the fields of tourism and catering. Simultaneously, deploying measures to ensure safety for destinations and service establishments, improving health capacity for COVID-19 prevention and control, implementing well 5K regulations.

Phu Yen is one of the eight provinces that have well controlled the pandemic in the country. Up to now, numerous localities have implemented the Government's Directive No.15, loosened the social distance, reopened production and business activities in the context of pandemic prevention and control. According to Phu Yen Tourism Association, the tourism sector has almost stopped operating for more than 2 years and closed completely for nearly 5 months. At present, tourism enterprises are facing numerous difficulties and want to recover soon and be able to resume operation with safe method.

To prepare for the recovery, one of the wishes of the tourism sector is to vaccinate workers in the sector. Mr. Bui Nguyen Vi Dong, Director of Long Phu Branch (Long Phu Tourism JSC) cum Head of Phu Yen Tour Guides Branch, lets known: currently, there are partners who have proposed to plan and prepare capacity documents to welcome guests in the coming time. In addition to  safe destination, they require that all workers of restaurant service, hotel receptionist, drivers, tour guides, etc., get 2 doses of vaccine. “But currently, they cannot work with Phu Yen due to tourism workers have not received any vaccinations. Meanwhile, in provinces of Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and many neighboring provinces, workers in the tourism sector have been fully vaccinated," said Mr Dong.

According to Mr Ho Van Tien, Chairman of Phu Yen Tourism Association, tourism enterprises look forward to reopening when the pandemic is under control. However, the obstacle and also the desire of those in Phu Yen tourism is that they have not been arranged to have vaccination. “The Association has deployed to member enterprises to prepare lists and subjects for vaccination, but it is not yet their turn. Up to now, vaccines have only been given to workers in hotels serving as concentrated isolation areas, members of the Association executive committee and a very few in each enterprise. Workers in tourism sector hope to get vaccinated soon to return to work", said Mr Tien.
